The New York Post created some buzz among those who didn't cut out of town early this (U.S.) holiday weekend by reporting Friday that Microsoft, for several weeks, has been discussing the possible acquisition of online auction site eBay.

The Post cites multiple unnamed sources in its story claiming that Microsoft has considered buying eBay and merging it with its MSN portal in an effort to better take on Google.

"Sources indicate that the talks, while still active, have cooled somewhat in the last two weeks as executives considered antitrust issues," the story says, adding that it's unclear what impact news that Yahoo and eBay have joined forces will have on the talks.

"I can't begin to fathom what exactly it could mean to the industry if this were to ever go through. Of course, Skype would certainly be integrated into Windows. That might be alright for a while. I don't really see much integration with eBay except for the mentioned integration with the Live Search. Added exposure for certain. Could also make for interesting integration of both Skype and Ebay into MSN Spaces. One question that comes to mind is how much is eBay worth. Privacy watchdog considers Ebay complaint

The information commissioner, the privacy watchdog, is considering a complaint that Ebay UK, the online auction site, is making it too difficult for users to delete their accounts.

Privacy International, a lobby group, has submitted a complaint to Richard Thomas, the commissioner, asking him to investigate Ebay UK's "apparent breach" of the data protection act.

The complaint alleges that the online company's UK arm has obstructed its members' ability to delete their accounts and hence remove their personal information from the site. Anyone who wants to sell or bid for goods via the site has first to register, disclosing personal information such as their date of birth. Ebay has about 15m UK users, out of more than 180m global customers.

Privacy International told the FT its concern was sparked by complaints from several of its members that they could not work out how to delete their Ebay UK accounts. On investigating, the lobby group found the auction site - in contrast to typical online practice - does not include a "delete account" option on its "my account" page. Nor does it include information on account deletion under the "managing your account" section of its help pages.

Ebay rejected the allegation, saying anyone who searched the help section of its website on how to close their account would be directed to a page with clear instructions. "Any users with queries about how to close their Ebay account are encouraged to use this help function or contact the Ebay customer support department," the company said. "Ebay takes the safety and privacy of Ebay users very seriously."

An aide to Mr Thomas said yesterday: "We have rec-eived a complaint from Privacy International which we are now looking into. The Information Commissioner's Office takes breaches of people's privacy very seriously and we are contacting Ebay about this."

I am new to selling, and had 2 auctions that ended yesterday. I am still having problems with verifying my paypal account... I have contacted them 2 times and we think there will be resolution within 24 hours.
Can my buyers still use the paypal option to pay, even if I don't see it right away? I have no problems whatsoever if I don't see it, but I don't want them to think that I tried to stiff them.

I will email them with this information as well, can I give them the option of waiting for 24 hours to pay, paying by other means, or refunding shipping or something seeing as it's my fault?

I am quite willing to do whatever I can, I just really don't know what to do! Please help!

Answer

PayPal account verification (the registering of a bank account) does not immediately influence buyers' ability to pay you. Having a correct email address on page 4 of the Sell Your Item form DOES influence that ability!

If you linked your eBay and PayPal addresses correctly, your winning buyers should have seen a "click here to pay" button. You, on the other hand won't see it.

After the buyer pays, you will see the transfer in your PayPal Summary, and the Details page. Don't send the items until after payment is visible as "paid" in those pages.

QUESTION
FOR THE FIRST TIME I HAVE AN INDIVIDUAL THAT HAS NOT PAID ME. I HAVE CONTACTED HER THRU EBAY SEVERAL TIMES. SENT HER ANOTHER INVOICE. ASKED IF THERE WAS ANY PROBLEM. TOLD HER THAT I WAS WILLING TO WORK WITH HER IN ANY WAY I COULD. SUNDAY, I EMAILED HER AND STATED THAT IF I DID NOT RECEIVE PAYMENT BY AUGUST 30 THAT THE AUCTION WOULD BE NULL AND VOID AND THAT I WOULD RELIST THE AUCTION. I REALLY HATE DOING A NEGATIVE FEEDBACK. ALSO, I KIND OF WORRY BECAUSE I SAW ONCE THAT SHE GOT A NEGATIVE FEEDBACK....CLAIMED SHE HAD PAID FOR AN ITEM.

HOW DO I HANDLE THIS SITUATION? I DO NOT WANT A NEGATIVE COMMENT ON MY SIDE....

1.question I had an item listed for sale and it sold on the third day to someone who had become a member to e-bay the same day they purchased my item. I stated for local pickup only and this person lived in UK and said they would arrange shipping. Why did my e-mail from them comming through e-bay UK supposedly, go to my Yahoo mail address which I gave to noone, instead of to my messages in my e-bay? Could this be a scam , how do I know, and what do I do if it is?

Forward it to spoof@ebay.com. EBay will tell you if they sent it or not. Probably is a scam, but I'm sure someone will be along to give you more info if it is. In the meantime, I've copied this from another posting (along with original poster name, giving credit where credit is definitely due).
